The Tariff Dumpster Fire

NPA Insights, November 2024

Hi all!

What a week! With the latest political changes, the discussion about additional import tariffs went from zero to dumpster fire faster than a bad Tinder date.

While the existing tariffs are already a significant strain for many smaller companies, additional tariffs will likely further impact their competitiveness due to the substantial required resources to minimize or avoid the extra cost.

Large corporations will continue diversifying their manufacturing locations to minimize tariff exposure or re-route their products through third-party countries. If you would like to read the generic essence- tariff dumpster fire- or delve into the economic details in this report by UBS, either way, it isn't good. Contact us if you need help.

Massachusetts saw a notable drop in venture capital (VC) activity in Q3, with deal counts falling by 23% and capital invested down by 7% compared to the previous quarter.

This trend, reported by PitchBook and the National Venture Capital Association, reflects a challenging environment due to rising capital costs, limited exit options, and delayed distributions, which together are bottlenecking VC deal flow.
