Podcast | Time for a New Industrial Policy for the United States? Part 2

February 14, 2025

What kind of industrial policy should the U.S. adopt in the post-free trade era?

This is the second of a two-part discussion with Marc Fasteau and Ian Fletcher, authors of the new book Industrial Policy for the United States: Winning the Competition for Good Jobs and High-Value Industries. They argue that the U.S. needs to abandon the free-trade stance it has taken since World War II, in line with the modern-day (and historical) realities of global trade relations. In this episode, they sketch out a three-pronged proposal for what that new policy should look like. Should the U.S. go all in on the imposition of tariffs, sanctions and protection of domestic industries, to match the behavior of its trading partners? Hosted by Bob Bowman, Editor-in-Chief of SupplyChainBrain.
